Losing on Penalties Hurts… A Tough Week to Be Dutch

Losing on Penalties Hurts... In Football and Business - A Tough Week to Be Dutch

Another World Cup, Another Heartbreak

As a Dutchman living in England, I’ll admit it… this week has been a little painful.
Watching the Netherlands bow out of the World Cup on penalties this early was hard to take. After all the excitement the hope and belief, the moments of brilliance, it came down to the finest of margins. One slight system change (rolling eyes emoji), a goal keeper in the form of his life and another with extremely bad luck, and suddenly the dream is over.

It hurts.

Sport has a funny way of reminding us about life and business.

In business, you don’t always lose because you weren’t good enough. Sometimes you simply miss out on a fantastic opportunity by the narrowest of margins. A proposal that almost won. A potential client who chose to hold off. A project that slipped away despite months of hard work. It happens and it’s all part of doing business.

It stings.

But just like football, success isn’t built on one match or one opportunity. It’s built on showing up every day, learning from disappointment, improving, and being ready for the next chance when it arrives. (there’s only another 4 years to wait)

At Saint IT, we’ve certainly had a few opportunities we’ve narrowly missed over the years. Looking back, many of them taught us valuable lessons that helped us win even bigger projects later on. Every setback has helped shape the business we are today. It’s made us value our customers even more, and helps us focus to ensure they are always our priority. So if you feel your IT support provider doesn’t value you, do come and have a chat with us. #techsupport https://www.saint-it.co.uk/managed-services/

It’s just Football (they say…)

So yes, I’m disappointed the orange shirts won’t be lifting the trophy this year. But tomorrow the sun will rise, businesses will keep moving forward, and there will be new opportunities waiting for those prepared to keep going.
Whether you’re supporting your favourite football team or growing your business, resilience is often the difference between those who almost succeed and those who eventually do.

It’s only a game

I’ll keep the orange flag on the car for a bit longer, tomorrow the Dutch red, white and blue will come down from the flagpole and replaced with a red cross on white, it’s good to have more than one option in life!

Now… where did I put my orange scarf? Better put that “Dutch Bag” back up the loft for the next tournament.
