August saw another exciting fit-out project completed by the Saint IT team, helping Kingsland Church in Colchester get its newly acquired ground-floor community centre ready for use.
The new space has been developed to provide a range of facilities for the local community, including meeting rooms, a therapy centre and a café. With the building being used by different groups and organisations, getting the underlying IT and security infrastructure right was an important part of the fit-out.
Saint IT was brought in to install the technology infrastructure across the building,
The project included the installation of:
- New data points throughout the building
- Multiple additional Wi-Fi access points to provide reliable wireless coverage
- A range of internal and external CCTV cameras for security and monitoring
- Access control across a several doors
- A new fibre link connecting the ground floor with the existing first-floor network
- The network infrastructure capable of supporting the new community centre
- A new fibre internet connection, which is due to go live shortly
Scalable reliable infrastructure
The dual core fibre link, which runs through existing trays and ducts, will link the old and the new part of the site and is scalable for a future phase 2 when the rest of the ground floor of this former Aldi building will be developed, phase 2 will house the new youth centre and three large meeting areas.
For the network infrastructure, we used Ubiquiti equipment, a platform the Saint IT team has considerable experience with and one we regularly recommend to businesses and charities. The project also included the installation of the building’s new 1Gb fibre internet connection, which will be going live shortly. In addition we’re also actively working to get Audio Visual technology installed in the café and several other meeting rooms.
Scalable reliable infrastructure
Projects like this are a great opportunity for us to bring together several areas of our expertise. Rather than simply installing a network, with Wi-Fi and structured cabling, but also installing fibre, CCTV, access control and an upgraded internet connection by our subsidiary Saint Telecom, all working together as part of one infrastructure solution.
It’s also another project that is particularly close to our hearts. Supporting a community facility in our home city of Colchester makes this one especially rewarding for the team, and it’s great to see the space taking shape.
We’re looking forward to seeing Kingsland Church’s new community centre fully up and running once the final stages are completed, which includes a brand new kitchen to support the café.
Another great project completed in just over 3 weeks by Saint IT — and one that we’re particularly proud to have been part of.
